Kumusta po! My name is Phillip-John Exler and I am proud to say I am half Filipino. I have lived in London all my life and was born to a Filipino mother and an English father. I believe it is important to embrace heritage as it is part of who you are.
He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.Jose Rizal
I have been greatly influenced from an early age by the Filipino culture. I have many friends who are Filipino and even married an amazing one. Other influences include being exposed to my Mother’s cooking and even having quite a few other Filipino and half Filipino children in my school classes. I have visited the Philippines many times and even joined the London-based Filipino dance group called Lahing Kayumanggi (www.lahingkayumanggi.com).
Through all these experiences, I have learned so much about the Philippines and being with other Filipinos enabled me to respect the beautiful culture and amiable people. Filipinos are probably the most positive, friendliest, hospitable and fun people I have encountered.

For this reason, I dedicate this blog to the Filipino people. Without them, I would not have become the person I am today. I hope you enjoy reading my experiences as being a proud half Filipino…
